Annual Report: Change & Growth In 2020 And The Work Ahead Of Us In 2021

Change & Growth in 2020 and the Work Ahead of Us in 2021

Our mission is crucial in this tumultuous time.  Here are the words of Judge Merrick Garland on January 7, as he accepted the nomination to become the United States Attorney General:

"As everyone who watched yesterday’s events in Washington now understands, if they did not understand before, the rule of law is not just some lawyers’ turn of phrase.  It is the very foundation of our democracy. The essence of the rule of law is that like cases are treated alike; that there not be one rule for Democrats and another for Republicans; one rule for friends, another for foes; one rule for the powerful, another for the powerless; one rule for the rich and another for the poor; or different rules depending on one's race and ethnicity."

The mission of the Access Commission is that there must not be one rule for Californians who have the position and means to maneuver through a civil justice obstacle course, and another rule for people who do not.  We work to reduce those obstacles for all Californians.  Our Commissioners bring many perspectives and we work in a number of different ways to accomplish this mission.
